Alert Monitor  FAQ

What is the difference between the BA6 and the BA12?
The BA6 is completely self-contained, the BA12 requires a separate controller which will provide an RS485 serial connection to the BA12 displays. All of the inputs and timing functions are therefore easily accessible on the remote controller.

What do I need to trigger the Alert monitor?
A contact closure (switch, relay etc) or npn open collector output of a transistor or an optoisolator.

Are the inputs isolated?
Yes, all of the trigger and manual reset inputs are opto-isolated, even the RS485 connection uses an opto isolator for added protection from noise and completely eliminates any false triggering.

On the BA12 or PC12 system, how many slaves can I operate?
As many as you like, it's an RS485 connection at only 1200 baud.

Is the BA6 in the same chassis as the BA12 wall display?
Yes, it's the very same and you can use the same template. (see docs page)

Can I get walnut or sides that match our decor?
No problem, just email us when you place the order and we'll bill you an additional $25.00 additional per unit.

Are the labels always free?
Always. Just email the order form and they will be sent out same day.

Why can't I do my own labels?
Because you'll be wasting your time.
*Obviously we would appreciate a consistent appearance for the product.
*Our labels use a special plastic with the proper light transmission.
*Our labels will look better than anything you "goof around with".

What is the purpose of "AUTO" and "MANUAL" reset?
In some cases you may want the operator to "see" the alert source and reset it. To "take action" and make sure it's responded to. You can insure this by placing a reset switch in a remote location.

AUTO reset is necessary for use with the enclosed telephone ring detect module and latching closures. It can also be used to prevent constant resetting of a device that triggers often, (news bulletins, etc.)

Is there a creative way of utilizing the Alert monitors I should be aware of?
Imagine the use of steering diodes or logic gates and encoders/decoders in front of the trigger inputs. For example, say you had 4 studios all needing to monitor a separate hotline. Using steering diodes or digital logic, you could combine all 4 closures to trigger the "HOTLINE" channel and use the 4 isolated closures to designate each studio. It could then display....."WAAA" & "HOTLINE" or "WZZZ" & "HOTLINE".
